Apocalypse Now (Times of Israel - 28 Jan 2025)
In the movie Apocalypse Now (1979), Colonel Walter E. Kurtz (Marlon Brando), a renegade Special Forces officer, goes rogue with his soldiers and wages war against the Vietcong using methods even more brutal and savage than their own. Kurtz firmly believed that the only way to combat savagery was to surpass it with even greater brutality. This philosophy, however, posed profound moral dilemmas for the U.S. government, ultimately compelling them to eliminate him.

Similarly, many of us have, at times, entertained the notion of confronting Muslim extremist terrorists with extreme prejudice, emulating Colonel Kurtz's approach. This perspective stems from the belief that terrorists understand only the language of terror and that the only way to stop them is by imposing consequences far more horrific than their actions. In such a mindset, one might imagine exacting vengeance by targeting their families—regardless of age or gender—mercilessly destroying their communities, including homes, businesses, infrastructure, and public spaces. It envisions dismantling their society entirely—socially, economically, and spiritually—while relentlessly pursuing them to the ends of the earth until they are completely eradicated. In moments of despair, we sometimes indulge in cathartic fantasies, imagining that lasting peace could be achieved through a single, devastating act.
However, we are ultimately brought back to the reality of our values. Our morals are fundamentally different from theirs, and this distinction defines who we are and who they are. For centuries, deeply malevolent groups and even entire civilizations have threatened our existence, endangering us with the specter of extinction. Yet, as the Chosen People entrusted with transmitting God's message, we have remained steadfast in our principles and beliefs, enduring against all odds. Good has always prevailed over evil.
This does not mean that we should refrain from fighting fiercely—of course, we must. The real question is: How can we achieve victory while upholding our moral principles? I propose the following focus areas:
1. Military Targets – Prioritize operations against military assets and infrastructure.
2. High-Ranking Military Officers – Target influential or exceptional figures within the enemy's military leadership.
3. High-Ranking Government Officials – Address those in key governmental roles supporting or orchestrating conflict.
4. Civilian Pro-War Activists – Focus on prominent civilians actively advocating for or enabling war efforts.
5. Propaganda Operators – Neutralize leading figures in enemy propaganda operations.
6. Military Supplies and Facilities – Disrupt the supply chain of weapons, equipment, and resources.
7. Human Resources for Warfare – Undermine recruitment efforts and training facilities.
8. Financial Support for Warfare – Target the financial networks funding conflict.
9. Propaganda Infrastructure – Disable systems and resources used to spread wartime propaganda.
10. Strategically Deemed Targets – Identify and address other critical targets essential to the enemy’s war effort.
By focusing on these areas, we can strategically weaken the enemy while maintaining our moral integrity.
To conclude this brainstorming, I propose that we must actively strive to shape and control the dominant global narrative regarding Israel and the Jewish People. On October 7, 2023, extremist Muslim terrorists were celebrated as heroes by hundreds of thousands of people across the world. To counteract the tireless groundwork these groups and their allies have laid over the years, we should establish a Jewish Propaganda Task Force based in Israel, with branches in every country where a Jewish community exists.
I am uncertain whether this Task Force should be led by the Israeli government, given its historically poor track record in public relations. Instead, this initiative should be overseen by an independent Jewish institution headquartered in Israel, operating with the approval and collaboration of the Israeli government.
The purpose of this article is not to serve as a treatise on military and political strategy, but rather a conscience exercise to propose that we can confront and triumph over evil while remaining steadfast in our commitment to the principles of goodness—principles that have nourished and sustained our civilization for thousands of years.
