Amplifying the Narrative (Times of Israel - 29 Aug 2025)
In the weeks after October 7, 2023, I was furious. How could Israeli officials, the very people entrusted with the nation’s security, ignore the warnings of their own junior intelligence officers? Their negligence left Israel unprepared for Hamas’s invasion. And even as the massacre unfolded, when desperate calls for help poured in, helicopters that could have deployed soldiers within minutes never arrived in time to protect civilians. That failure will haunt me forever. It should never have happened.
As the months passed, I came to recognize something grim but undeniable. That day shattered the illusion that pogroms, persecution, and assassination were buried in the past. If not for October 7, When would we have finally understood that much of the world still harbors ancient hatreds toward Jews, and that new forms of hostility have also flourished? And worse, that many are willing to excuse it when Jews are murdered. Before the Holocaust, antisemitism was concentrated in Germany and across Europe. After October 7, it revealed itself as global.
The real task is not only to understand what went wrong but to ensure it never happens again. The standard must be absolute: never again.
Today, Jews face an extraordinary challenge. We must persuade a significant portion of the world’s 8.2 billion people of Israel’s, and the Jewish people’s, reality. But first we must dismantle the lies that distort that reality. This is not simple persuasion. It is re-education. And we are not starting from zero; we are starting from minus one hundred. To reach plus one hundred, our effort cannot be average. It must be amplified.
Here is the hard truth: as long as Gaza is used to bait Israel into striking civilians, children, women, and the elderly, forced to serve as human shields for Hamas, the narrative will remain stacked against us. Convincing the world that Israel and the Jewish people are the underdogs fighting for survival will not just be difficult. It will be an uphill struggle every step of the way.
If much of our battle is about narrative and perception, then finding the right story is not enough. The challenge is spreading it at scale. And here we face two obstacles. First, the most powerful platforms, the media, social networks, and academia, are largely dominated today by voices hostile to Israel. Second, we are only 16 million Jews in a world of 8.2 billion. The numbers speak for themselves.
To make an impact, we need an amplifier effect, something hundreds of times greater than what we can achieve alone. Convincing people one by one would take centuries. We must build a genuine amplifier, one that can do in days what would otherwise take generations. It can take many forms, but at its core it must give us the power to project our narrative, again and again, through media, social networks, and academic platforms.
But numbers and channels alone are not enough. The strength of our message depends on unity. Too often, Jews fall into the trap of believing each of us knows best. But if we are to succeed, we must act as a team. Narratives today are rarely longer than a paragraph. That requires discipline. One message at a time. Everyone amplifying the same one.
There are already models to follow. Social networks and WhatsApp groups may seem small, but they matter. One example is a group called Stronger Together. Its mission is clear: “You will receive approximately 10 easy click-and-sign expert letters per day to governments, businesses, schools, or wherever our collective voice is needed. We do not shut down highways, airports, or hold violent protests. We fight with our smarts and with FACTS.”
This is the spirit we must embrace. The reality is harsh, but the answer is coordination. Unity is no longer optional, it is survival. With discipline, with courage, and with the force of an amplifier effect, we can ensure our story is not silenced but amplified. The time for fragmented voices is over. The time to act together is now.
Unity is our amplifier. Spread synchronized narratives. Create the amplifier effect that carries our story across the world.
